  • Tweetdeck: Quirks and Wishlist
A week ago, Seesmic introduced the new Tweetdeck version [v.0.24.1b]. The new version has some fix-ups, some spanking new features, and a quirk or two that I really want to get fixed in upcoming releases. I'm well aware that this is still a beta release, but Tweetdeck has become so indispensible, that I would really want a beta to work out properly out of the box. There are two main features that set this release apart from previous one.

First the integration with Facebook, and ability to cross-post messages. Adam Ostrow covered it thoroughly in his post.

The second set of features are directly related to twitter functionality. An autcomplete drop-down menu appears on your screen, stealing focus, whenever you type @ or d/D. This definitely comes in very hand, as the more tweeple you follow, the harder it becomes to remember everyone's twitter name. I have two quirks with how it works:

    1. I tried this beta release of Tweetdeck on Ubuntu, and on Win XP. On Win XP the drop down menu appears when I type either @ or d/D at either the beginning of the tweet, or midway. On Ubuntu, on the other hand, the drop down menu appears after typing @ only. d/D neither at the beginning of the tweet nor midway triggers the drop down menu.

    2. Second quirk with the autocomplete functionality: The menu is triggered whenever I type @. When the drop down menu appears, and I choose my reply's recepient, and hit enter, there's an extra @ in the tweet.

This calls to going back and removing the extra @. Not very convenient.

Finally, there's something I keep wishing for whenever I hear a new Tweetdeck release is coming out. There's no mention of it being slated for upcoming releases yet, but I'm keeping my faith. I would really like to have individual toggling of audio alerts. For instance, I want audio alerts for my replies and DMs, but I don't want them for every column I have for a search term or a group. If Tweetdeck can do that, I'll be forever faithful.
